Via Transilvanica – Behind the Scenes with Iulian Gabor

Via Transilvanica – Behind the Scenes with Iulian Gabor Wanderwach & Kaffee

Iulian Gabor is a very special guest: on the one hand he is a vivid hiker and outdoorsy person himself, but on the other hand, Iulian works for the NGO Tășuleasa Social that created, maintains and takes care of the Via Transilvanica. This trail is a 1400 km long trail in Romania and gets more and more attention beyond Romania and even Europe.

In the last episode, Jennifer shared her experience on hiking the Via Transilvanica, but today Iulian takes us along for a look behind the scenes of the trail.

In our conversation, Iulian shares how the Via Transylvania was founded, he talks about the cultural and scenic regions with their specific heritage through which the route leads and gives a thorough insight in what it takes to maintain the trail and finally on the NGO’s plans to grow the project.

With all of this, the Via Transilvanica is an outstanding example on how to not only create a trail, but also a community, on how to elevate tourism in remote rural areas and also connect to other aspects of society like art. It does not come as a surprise that they’re now being followed by more and more interesting long distance hiking trail projects worldwide.

I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation.

Yours truly, Mareike
