07/06/2018 - On safari in TANZANIA & KENYA
Travelling in Africa is never complete without going on a safari.
So I went to Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania together with friends from California and to the famous Masai Mara National Park in Kenya.
I have never seen so many animals in such a relatively small space in that short time. Especially the Masai Mara is a fascinating place: wide open grasslands that are all green right now because of the rainy season. Seen the so called Big 5 (lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and rhino) in their natural habitat and many other creatures such as giraffes, zebras, hyanas, hippos, tons of different gazelles, wilderbeests, … Travelling to those areas makes me aware of how vulnerable our planet is – there are not many areas anymore where you can watch these big animals in their habitat and even though it is a great thing that they are protected in national parks, it’s a shame that we need national parks to protect their environment from getting destroyed and some animals from getting murdered by poachers just for selling parts of their bodies on illegal markets.
However, I wish that humans get more aware of the fact that this earth does not exclusively belong to us – we are sharing it with creatures and eco systems that cannot defend themselves. We have to do everything to preserve it.
