08/12/2018 - From CHILE to ARGENTINA
After having had this rough start with getting robbed in Santiago, I got on a bus over the Andes to Mendoza in Argentina. The bus ride takes about 8 hours and crosses the pass ‚Paco Internacional Los Libertadores‘ at 3200 m above sea level. It is a spectacular ride as the windy road brings you very close to Aconcagua, the highest peak of South America. The scenery is truly stunning: high mountains, snowfields, raging rivers and a road that is in parts in tunnels that are fairly scary as there is no such thing as an emergency tunnel.
The immigration procedure at the border was relatively quick and hassle-free and with a friendly ‚Bienvenido a Argentina‘ I was on Argentinian ground. After that the road descends for many kilometers until it finally hits the plains and leads into Mendoza. There I met up with my hiking friends and after catching up we are about to get ready for the next adventure. We are leaving for South America’s highest mountain: Aconcagua. It is almost 7000 m high and we are going to hike up and hopefully will summit just before or right at Christmas.
So fingers crossed for good weather, perfect health and an awesome time in the Andes. Bring it on!
